2 explosions kill 16 people in north
“The people of Qamishli are living in a state of anxiety because of these fierce terrorist attacks, unprecedented for the city, particularly on the eve of New Year holiday”, said The Assyrian Monitor for Human Rights, a local monitoring group, in a Facebook post on Thursday.

The SANA news agency said the “terrorist explosions” happened late on Wednesday in the city of Qamishli, hitting the Shiyahi area, a Christian neighborhood. SANA still put the toll at 16.
The Daesh militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The twin bombings ripped through two restaurants in the predominantly-Kurdish northeastern city of Qamishli in the al-Hasakah province, according to the report.
Three different bombing attacks, at least one involving a suicide bomber, were carried out today against restaurants in the Hasakeh Province city of Qamishli, primarily under the control of the Kurdish YPG. ISIS is believed responsible for the attacks.
The attack also caused material damage to a building and number of cars in the place. Syrian President Bashar Assad’s government uses the term “terrorist” to refer to all of those fighting against his rule. “At least nine persons were killed and more than 25 injured”. Palmyra and its famed ruins, once a major tourist draw, fell to IS in May.
The café and restaurant are located in a part of the city that is under the control of Syrian government forces.
