Officer Pleads Not Guilty To Murder
“Anytime an officer uses force the public deserves answers, and regardless of the circumstances we all grieve anytime there is a loss of life in our city”, Emanuel said in a statement after the shooting. Emanuel also said he’s leaving Cuba early to return to Chicago.

Meanwhile, a law enforcement source tells the Chicago Tribune that the officer who shot LeGrier and Jones last weekend “didn’t see the woman until after she’d been accidentally shot”.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel is referring to the trust, or lack of it, between the black community and police, an acknowledgement he made while discussing changes within the police department about how officers are trained and the weapons they carry.
Escalante said the department’s goal is to resolve confrontations using the least amount of physical or lethal force necessary and to “change the way officers think” when they approach a critical incident.
Tensions over race and policing in Chicago and Cleveland come amid intense scrutiny of police killings in the United States over the past 18 months, especially of black men. Combined with the new training, Emanuel said the new equipment will ensure that “force can be a last option, not the first choice”.
About 1,860 officers – or roughly 15 per cent of Chicago’s police force – have completed the the department’s crisis-intervention team training, according to department statistics.
Chicago officials are expected to announce changes in police training, including a requirement that every officer responding to service calls be equipped with a Taser. The officer, wearing a dark suit and blue striped tie, appeared in court Tuesday as his lawyer entered the plea on his behalf. The victim’s family has already filed a wrongful death suit against the city, and calls have grown for the police department to expand its training protocols in order to avoid more casualties. The paper also said LeGrier faced robbery and assault charges from three incidents since he began attending Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, 65 miles west of Chicago. But instead, they’re “being used as a compliance tool” against suspects who are not necessarily risky but are disobeying officers’ commands.
An aide to Mayor Rahm Emanuel has allegedly been assaulted while attending a vigil for two people who were fatally shot by Chicago police. The McDonald murder prompted protests across the city and led to the firing of Garry McCarthy as CPD superintendent.
The murderous cop who shot Laquan McDonald a staggering 16 times has pleaded not guilty to the charges of six counts of first-degree murder and one charge of misconduct.
Speaking to reporters Wednesday, Emanuel noted that Chicago is not the only city struggling with the issue.
