Israel says new E1 settlement plans ‘invalid’
Israeli settler watchdog Peace Now is warning in a new report that the Israeli Housing Ministry is seeking a massive series of new settlement expansions cutting across all sections of the West Bank, totaling 55,548 new housing units, including two new settlements. An initial inquiry suggests an additional soldier was injured as a result of the fire directed towards the attackers, ‘ the military said in a statement.

In a report Monday, the group said the construction is envisioned in the area known as E1.
During his time in office, Ariel insisted repeatedly that expanding settlements into E1 was a “right and obligation” of the far-right government. “The ministry of housing has no authority either to plan or build beyond the Green Line”, which separates Israel from the West Bank.
In 2013, faced with global pressure, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vetoed construction of some 1,200 homes there but Peace Now said the housing ministry has hired architects to prepare fresh blueprints.
Although all settlements in the Israeli-occupied West Bank are considered to be illegal under global law, construction in E1 is seen as especially problematic by the Palestinians due to its geographical location.
“Using primarily these five methods: seizure for military purposes; declaration of state lands; seizure of absentee property; confiscation for public needs; and initial registration, Israel has managed to take over about 50% of the lands in the West Bank, barring the local Palestinian public from using them”.

The cell is evidence to “an increased effort to exploit the escalation of violence in the West Bank to promote bombings and suicide bombings against targets in Israel and the West Bank”, the Shin Bet said.
US-backed peace talks between the Palestinians and Israel collapsed in April 2014 amid bitter mutual recriminations.
