They were not kept away by the recent wave of violence between Palestinians and Israelis.

The Palestinians claim the West Bank and east Jerusalem, captured by Israel in the 1967 Middle East war, for an independent state.
The military said the attackers stabbed the soldier at a gas station near the Hawara crossing, south of the city of Nablus.
Israel resorts to punitively demolish the family homes of any Palestinian – as means of deterrence – accused of being involved in attacks against Israelis, a policy that Israel does not use against Israeli settlers who were involved in fatal attacks against Palestinians. Israel’s plans for building more settlements in the West Bank of River Jordan will make it far more hard to resolve the issue of the eventual status of Palestinian territories, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. The latest round of US-brokered peace talks collapsed in April 2014.
In another attack, earlier in the day, police said a soldier was stabbed and lightly wounded in Jerusalem by a 30-year-old attacker. As the Associated Press reported, a Palestinian security officer said that “Palestinian security forces arrested Wednesday about a dozen suspected radical Islamists in Bethlehem”.
The fourth Palestinian, who died in clashes with the Israeli military in the Qalandiya refugee camp in the West Bank, was hit in the head by live fire, according to Ahmad Bitawi, the director of Ramallah hospital. They say that Israeli settlement construction on the lands they claim is a sign of bad faith. “If it wasn’t significant, why do it at all”, she said.
Americans for Peace Now (APN) is alarmed by new evidence, exposed today by our Israeli sister organization Peace Now, indicating that the Israeli government is planning massive new settlement construction in the West Bank, including in an area known as “E-1” adjacent to East Jerusalem.

“The State of Israel should liberate Hebron from the talons of the “terror authority” and begin to rule as an enlightened regime for the security of the residents of Israel”, said the statement.
