How much money you just saved on gas in 2015
Gas for less than $2 a gallon is getting easier to find. The state gas tax will rise again on January 1 but only by half a cent from the previous July 1, 2015 increase. Given the nominal tax increase and gas prices trending downward, motorists are unlikely to notice the increase.

Gas prices have declined throughout 2015 and are now hovering around 2009 prices, according to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), at $2.034 and $2.235 per gallon for gasoline and diesel, respectively. Because of the low prices, Americans spent $115 billion less on gasoline this year than they did in 2014.
“As the refining issues impacting California aren’t expected to be resolved this week, California will continue to inflate the national gas price average into the new year”.
The average price is 14.9 cents more than one week ago, 27.4 cents higher than one month ago and 37.6 cents greater than one year ago.
The drop in gas prices reflects a second year of plunging crude-oil prices amid a glut of supply-a 31% skid for the USA benchmark CLG6, +2.98% There is little sign that production will be reduced soon to better equal demand.
Among the states, gas prices in 2015 were highest on average in California for the first time ever (usually it’s Hawaii) because of numerous problems at refineries there, AAA said.
Over the last decade, only 2009 – when gas prices fell due to the economic downturn – saw lower gas prices in the United States.

Even so, the group estimated that the average price of gas in 2016 will be between $2.25 and $2.45 a gallon.
