Later in his speech, Trump remarked that “the last thing [Clinton] wants in her whole life” is to face him in a general election. Clinton’s public comments came as President Obama was in a re-election campaign making claims al-Qaida was “on the run”.

“The Force Awakens” collected a galactic $250 million of global ticket sales through Friday and headed toward a historic opening weekend in the United States and Canada as fans around the world reveled in the return of the beloved space saga.

In the face of criticism, President Park Geun Hye has launched an all-out campaign to win public support for the deal. China took a different tack, with state media slamming Japan’s long-awaited mea culpa as insincere and insufficient.

In North America, the film sold a record $100 million worth of presale tickets before Thursday previews began at approximately 7 p.m. EST.

Sydney’s biggest show kicks off global party despite terror fears
Samoa was the first nation to see in 2016, with New Zealand the first nation with a sizeable population to celebrate the New Year. New York: Around 1 million people were expected to converge on New York City’s Times Square for the annual celebration.

The box office earnings of The Force Awakens are the highest opening night ever by a film.

That number blasted the opening day record in the US, held by “Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2”, which made $91.7 million on its opening day in 2011.

So once again, Disney – which prior to this year had the largest North American opening ever with “The Avengers, ‘ ” a $207.4 million take – owns the biggest opener in the land. But who knew that the seventh installment would gross $100 million in one day?

Other records “The Force Awakens” created were the film with the biggest December debut, the biggest IMAX Thursday night, the biggest IMAX single-day and the biggest IMAX weekend.

There’s no denying that Star Wars: The Force Awakens will continue to rake in hundreds of millions, but only time will tell if it has the strength and endurance to climb to the very top of the box office charts.

3-D and Imax screenings are helping to propel the record gross.

Disney execs estimate that the film is on track for a $200 million opening weekend, a rather conservative estimate at this point.

The £9.64m tally beat the previous best of £9.48m set by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. The decision to delay the China opening was made by the country’s government, which reviews and dates of every foreign film with an eye toward protecting its homegrown film industry.
