William Nylander won’t play for Sweden against Canada
Alexander Nylander and Gustav Forsling had a goal and an assist each as Sweden beat Canada 5-2 on Thursday in the final game of the preliminary round at the world junior hockey championship.

Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston reports that the Swedish team doctor added that, “Everything is still positive and he is feeling really good”.
Slovakia had a chance late in the third period to tie it up with a power play they couldn’t convert on.
The Swedish team press officer, Anders Feltenmark, called a press conference for the afternoon today in Helsinki where William Nylander was supposed to be available to the press.
Nylander an unknown – Sweden forward and Toronto Maple Leafs prospect William Nylander missed his third straight game Thursday because of a head injury sustained in the first period of Sweden’s first game, December 26 against Switzerland. Alexander Nylander leads Sweden with three goals and eight points in four games.
“I think they have the approach to this as we are”, Bergsten said. He and Canada’s other big forwards, Brendan Perlini and Lawson Crouse, have looked like the games on Helsinki ice are a little too quick for them. Canada limps into the playoff round with just one regulation victory, and will face Jesse Puljujarvi, Patrik Laine, and the offensive juggernaut that is Team Finland on the first day of elimination play.
It’s a winnable game for Canada if it can shut down that line and find some offence in a group that has 11 goals in four games, with six of those coming against Denmark. Coincidentally, that tournament also was played in Finland.
The 2016 roster also features future National Hockey League star talent, and four players who returned from the 2015 WJC team that won the gold.
Denmark woke up a sleepy United States team by scoring first.
Felix Sandstrom, a Philadelphia Flyers prospect expected to be Sweden’s No. 1 goalie, replaced Soderstrom against Canada and stopped the only shot he faced.
Canada got its first real pressure of the period in the last minute, hemming Sweden in its own end for a rare shift not spent in its own zone, but, overall, the period belonged to Sweden, leading the shot column 12-6, and having a proportional 2-1 lead on the scoreboard.
The US finished second in their group and will face the loser of the Finland-Czech Republic game in the quarterfinals.
Axel Holmström sent an excellent cross-crease pass to Adrian Kempe, and the Swedes scored their third power-play goal of the game.

Russian Federation remains most special – Only Switzerland, which next plays in the relegation series, was shorthanded more than Russian Federation during the preliminary round. Finland got the go-ahead goal on the first power play of the game, and Kasperi Kapanen got an assist and his second point of the tournament.
