Bill Cosby’s lawyer says charge was part of campaign promise

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for January 14.
After the criminal case went nowhere, Constand settled her lawsuit against Cosby in 2006 on confidential terms.
Following yesterday’s arraignment, Bill Cosby’s attorney is coming out swinging, claiming the whole thing is a publicity stunt engineered by the District Attorney in order to fulfill a campaign promise that led to his election.
Cosby has not entered a plea in Wednesday’s case.
Monique Pressley, one of Cosby’s lawyers and spokeswoman for his legal team, went on the Today show and declared that Cosby is not guilty of second-degree aggravated indecent assault back in 2004.
Bill Cosby was arraigned Wednesday in the case of Andrea Constand, who accused him of drugging and sexually assaulting her at his home 12 years ago – the first criminal charges against the disgraced comedian despite similar allegations by dozens of other women over the course of more than 30 years.
Prosecutors armed with new evidence this year believe his accuser, Andrea Constand, was too impaired by the pills and wine Mr. Cosby gave her to consent to the sexual activity that followed at his home.
Constand’s attorney, Dolores Troiani, who has spoken out against Castor’s handling of the case, said she trusts Steele. When the pills allegedly rendered her unable to move, she later told police, Cosby sexually assaulted her. The two developed “what the victim believed to be a honest friendship”, according to the complaint.
“When directly asked if he ever had sexual intercourse with the victim, Cosby gave the unusual answer, ‘never asleep or awake, ‘” according to the affidavit.
Ms Pressley said she expected prosecutors would try to establish a pattern of conduct against her client by bringing in allegations from his other accusers, but the defence would fight to keep such evidence out.
Sarita Butterfield: Butterfield, a former Playboy bunny, has said that Cosby molested her in a guest house yards away from his family when he invited her to join the Cosbys for Christmas Eve dinner in 1977.
Most, if not all, of her own clients, Allred said, were barred from pursuing a criminal case by the statute of limitations – “that arbitrary time limit set by law from having their cases prosecuted”. He also stepped down from the board of trustees at Temple, and there were calls to revoke his Presidential Medal of Freedom.
It’s hard to say for sure, but most of the accusations against Cosby date back a few decades, which means they fall under statutes of limitations and can no longer be tried. That new information came from a 2005 deposition a federal judge unsealed in July, in which Cosby admits that he meant to give drugs to young women with whom he wanted to have sex. Constand was a basketball player, and has been openly gay for decades, a fact which she stated in the deposition appeared to escape Cosby during his alleged 2004 assault and complicated subsequent claims by him that the encounter was consensual.
Steele didn’t talk about Cosby at his victory party in November, at least not directly.

“I think I can speak for all of us and say we are thrilled”, Heidi Thomas told CNN. Cosby, through his lawyers, has regularly denied the accusations.
