William Wayne McMillan Rogers III played the wry sidekick to Alan Alda’s Hawkeye Pierce for only the first three years of the series’ historically popular 11-season run on CBS.

According to The Associated Press, who spoke with the actor’s longtime friend and publicist, Rona Menashe, Rogers died of complications from pneumonia.
I remember Rogers appearing in a number of commercials on behalf of the Unity Church and would like to leave you with one of them. Elliot Gould was same character in the “M.A.S.H.” feature film that preceded the TV show, and Pernell Roberts played the title character in the 1980s spinoff drama “Trapper John, M.D”.
Rogers went on to star in two other series, “City of Angels” and “House Calls”, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe award in 1979.
An Alabama native and Princeton graduate, Rogers had parts on many short-lived shows before “M.A.S.H.”, specializing in westerns like “Law of the Plainsman” and “Stagecoach West”.
After leaving M.A.S.H., Rogers made regular appearances on television, including a role on the popular “90s-era Angela Lansbury show, Murder, She Wrote”.

In recent years, Rogers was a panelist on “Cashin’ In” on Fox News.
