Clemson rolls over Oklahoma in NCAA semifinals
Oklahoma managed just 121 second-half yards after racking up 257 in the first half. Stoops led the Sooners to the national championship in his second season as head coach in 2000.

Clemson outscored Oklahoma 21-0 during a 15-minute span in the second half to take control of the game.
The Clemson Tigers come into this game with a flawless 13-0 record. It even has an entry in the Urban Dictionary, which defined it as “the act of delivering an inexplicably disappointing performance, usually within the context of a college football season”. The Crimson Tide will try to win their 16th national championship – at least that’s how many Alabama recognize – and Saban’s fourth title in seven years.
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) – Dabo Swinney was in no mood to talk about Clemsoning. “It’s the will. They had that edge and a will about them in the second half”.
BREAKING NEWS: The Clemson Tigers have sent three players home due to failing drug tests, players include: kicker, Ammon Lakip; tight end, Jay McCullough; and, freshman star, wide receiver Deon Cain. “It won’t be much longer”.
Watson certainly lived up to the hype of being a Heisman Trophy finalist.
Late in the third quarter, Watson showed off his passing chops too, firing a 35-yard strike to Hunter Renfrow that put Clemson up by two scores. He was named the game’s Offensive MVP. Oklahoma got the ball first and immediately went on a 10-play, 75-yard drive that resulted in a 1-yard TD run by Perine that put the Sooners up 7-0.
After the teams traded field goals, the Sooners managed to take a 17-16 lead into halftime after Mark Andrews caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Mayfield with 1:34 left in the half.
The victory in the College Football Playoff semifinal enabled Clemson to advance to the CFP championship game on January 11 in Glendale, Az. against the victor of last night’s Cotton Bowl semifinal between No. 2 Alabama and No. 3 Michigan State.
It’s going to be a hot one down in Miami – and we’re not just talking about the weather. Oklahoma won regular-season games in 1963 and 1972; Clemson won bowl matchups in 1989 and then again last season.
“Whenever you’ve got two great offenses”, said Clemson linebacker B.J. Goodson, “it’s always gonna be about who’s making big stops in big moments”.
Watson finished with one touchdown rushing, one passing and continued one of the most impressive statistics in college football: He is undefeated in games as a starter that he finishes without injury. They were just as confident in the guy that wasn’t on the field as they were in the guy that replaced him.
Clemson piled up 550 yards in the game, sealing the victory on Gallman’s 4-yard touchdown run with 10:48 remaining. And the Big-12 champion Oklahoma was beneficial of a season where there weren’t any notable Pac-12 teams to challenge them. Ironically the Tigers faced the Sooners in last year’s Russell Athletic Bowl and blew them out by a final score of 40-6.
“They played more physically than we did”, Stoops said.

Watson, the Orange Bowl’s Offensive Most Outstanding Player, rushed for a career-high 145 yards on 24 carries to make him just the third quarterback in FBS history to throw for 3,500 yards and rush for 1,000 in a single season.
