5 takeaways from Auburn’s Birmingham Bowl victory
According to The Ledger-Enquirer, the Auburn equipment staff was warned that if Ball were to get an interception, he has a history of attempting to steal a ball from the opponent after the game.

The school later issued a statement to declare Ball had been dismissed immediately from the team and would not be involved in any further football department activities. As Kevin Trahan of SB Nation noted, Ball trotted back to the sideline with the intercepted touchdown ball after referees tried to get it from him.
Memphis defensive back Reggis Ball (39) returns an interception as Auburn wide receiver Ricardo Louis (5) tackles him during the Birmingham Bowl NCAA college football game, Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, in Birmingham, Ala. Even though Legion Field is quite a drive for fans in South Alabama, there was no way they were going to miss their Tigers play.
We’ve already mentioned how well the defense played in this game, and how a lot of that can be contributed to how Thompson prepared them heading into the Birmingham Bowl.
He said university President M. David Rudd, incoming head coach Mike Norvell and interim coach Darrell Dickey supported the decision. Auburn overpowered Memphis in the second half winning 31-10.
“This game was special because it’s Memphis”, Robinson said. “When he went into the game, he gave us great momentum”.
NOTES: Memphis and Auburn met only twice in football before Wednesday’s game. The previous record was 59,135 in 2013, when Ole Miss beat Pittsburgh….
A video of the incident was posted by a spectator at the game.
