Clemson star Shaq Lawson says he’ll play in title game
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney and quarterback Deshaun Watson (4) congratulate each other on the field after their team won the Orange Bowl NCAA college football semifinal playoff game against Oklahoma, Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015, in Miami Gardens, Fla.

The top-ranked Clemson Tigers are going home Orange Bowl champions after a win over the No. 4 Oklahoma Sooners on Thursday. Watson finished with 145 yards and a score on the ground while Gallman pounded through Oklahoma for 150 yards and two touchdowns. The Tigers will await the victor of Cotton Bowl opponents Alabama and Michigan State in the title game in Glendale, Ariz on January 11.
He says he spent the second half trying to help and lead teammates with his words on the sideline.
When Clemson linebacker Ben Boulware intercepted a Baker Mayfield pass at the 2 midway through the fourth quarter, the day was over for Oklahoma. Clemson clearly controlled the game and had the Sooners exactly where they wanted them as they dominated on both sides of the ball.
The Sooners didn’t let down, scoring on a TD connection from Mayfield to Mark Andrews to put Oklahoma ahead, 17-16.
Sun Life Stadium filled with Clemson fans before the game. Notre Dame, Florida State, then here beating Oklahoma and now we’re going to the national championship. Clemson’s defense didn’t skip a beat without him, holding Oklahoma scoreless after halftime. Watson would run in for a 5 yard score to put Clemson up 10-7.
One of his biggest plays of the year came against Tennessee in the second game of the season, when he stopped Vols quarterback Joshua Dobbs for a six-yard loss on an option run. They were just as confident in the guy that wasn’t on the field as they were in the guy that replaced him. We’ve had that next man up mentality so when Shaq went down, Austin went in and he played well. Clemson came in averaging 48 penalty yards per game, Oklahoma at 61 per game.
There were two big plays on the drive: a 46-yard run by Watson to start the march and a 31-yard pass from punter Andy Teasdall to defensive tackle Christian Wilkins. Ask Oklahoma. Their seasons ended, in some form, after Clemson games.
Having Mayfield on the field should make for a more competitive matchup after Trevor Knight, who recently made a decision to transfer, completed just 13 of 37 passes for 103 yards with three interceptions against Clemson a year ago. “The national championship? Nothing will keep me out of that”.
Clemson will have a chance to become the 1st team in college football history to go 15-0 if they win the national championship game.
“They ran the ball on us, and we couldn’t run it on them”, Sooners coach Bob Stoops said.
“We’re not thinking of that”, Swinney said.

It should therefore have not been surprising to see Clemson look very much like the unbeaten, unblemished, undisputed top team in college football during the second half, when it quickly reversed a 17-16 deficit to pull away from the Sooners.
