Tide, Spartans will get a later start
It’s the Nick Saban starter kit vs. his deluxe edition.

I see this game being played on fairly even terms for a while before Alabama pulls away. After a two-year drought that produced questions about whether Alabama had slipped a notch from its dynasty days, Nick Saban has the Crimson Tide back in the national title game trying to win his fourth championship at Alabama and fifth overall. Saban watched Dantonio’s coaching career progress, always impressed. There’s no chess match here: Michigan State has shown an ability to shut down elite running backs and its success is built on that.
Are the Spartans really being disrespected? If you can’t put scoreboard pressure on Alabama and force them to do things they’re not comfortable doing, their natural advantages will eventually turn into an avalanche of points. There’s only one way to find out, college football fans! That’s a fact, not disrespect, though it sure can be taken as such.
Michigan State’s men’s basketball team has some prime seats for the College Football Playoff semifinal game at the Cotton Bowl – in the row closest to the field near the school’s band.
The second-ranked Alabama football team wrapped up the practice schedule with a walkthrough on Wednesday, the final meeting before Thursday’s Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic against Michigan State.
Can Ohio State root for Michigan State to do what the Buckeyes did a year ago? Georgia ran for 193 against Alabama while Tennessee ran for 132.
There are two ways to look at what Michigan State is facing with Alabama.
Alabama is an eight-point favorite in this game and the Over/Under (O/U) is sitting at 49 points. Michigan State has their weapons, but to win this game they will need every single gun firing on offense and defense to slow down this Alabama attack. Coker is not the strongest quarterback to come through Alabama, what he does bring to the table is a great field sense as well as a decent pocket sense.
But the dominance by the Crimson Tide wasn’t completely obvious in the first quarter as to nobodies surprise, defense was the name of the game throughout the scoreless quarter. How successful Alabama is will depend a lot on how Kelly handles McDowell.
WHAT WE’LL BE TALKING ABOUT: Michigan State’s plan was clear.
The scoring drive was three plays for 69 yards, but the best moment of that drive was Henry’s impressive stiff-arm.
The break between the SEC Championship Game and the Cotton Bowl should’ve been welcomed for Henry. T.J. Yeldon got 10. The Crimson Tide are the standard program in college football and perhaps all of the major sports. Michigan State’s chance to go into the half with something positive was snatched by Jones. Only once, vs. Mississippi State in November, did he have less than 23 carries against an SEC opponent in 2015. Everything begins and ends with how dominant Henry will be against the opposing defense.
“He needs to play one of his best games that he has played in his career, because I think it’s going to be tough to run the ball against that front early”, he said. The passing windows will be much smaller. He did not start in last season’s Sugar Bowl, but threw for 2,489 yards and 17 touchdowns during the season.
Of course, as my record indicates, these games are hard to predict. When Baylor, operating out of a playbook Art Briles apparently stole from a museum, hung a bowl-record 645 yards rushing on North Carolina, it made you wonder what havoc Oklahoma could wreak on Clemson in the Orange Bowl.

Could we be headed for a scoreless first half? But he’s had almost a full month of rest since, so there’s no reason to think Alabama will limit him in what is likely his last college game.
