Besides marching in the Rose Parade on New Year’s Day, the band will perform at Bandfest at Pasadena City College today and lead the Holiday Parade at Disneyland on Wednesday.
“I’m most excited for the parade and being able to feel the energy from the crowd and knowing that we’re on television in front of millions of people”, Dietz said.
Ultimately, they decided fear wouldn’t stop them.
“Statistically, I feel like we’re pretty safe”, Hayton said.
Mark Selby, a deputy special agent with Department of Homeland Security Investigations, said that the annual event would receive increased federal resources and funding this time around, meaning “greater access” to the DHS. Multiple tactical teams are on standby.
“We usually sell a lot of things during the final three days leading up to the parade”, said Eddie Yambao, who manages the Big 5 Sporting Goods store on Colorado Boulevard. Organizers are also instituting a clear-bag policy, requiring people who enter the stadium to use see-through plastic bags or small clutches. It also regularly is selected to attend the prestigious Arcadia Festival of Bands.
“There are no known credible threats to Pasadena or either event”, said Police Chief Philip Sanchez in a statement. Officials have a plan to immediately seek court warrants if they need to monitor phone activity, Selby said.
ALL fireworks are prohibited except as part of scheduled official events.
The theme for the Rose Parade, “Find Your Adventure”, honors the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service. Award-winning documentary filmmaker Ken Burns, named an honorary park ranger for his series “The National Parks: America’s Best Idea“, will be the parade’s Grand Marshal.
“It’s incredible to watch the smiles and the excitement of everybody on the parade route as they see the floats come by-it’s something else”, says Amerine.
Among the 44 floats are works in homage to the City of Hope, whose float was built by and will feature athlete cancer survivors. Its title, “Every Second is an Adventure”, represents the importance of each moment in basketball, capturing the excitement of last-second shots and dramatic finishes, according to John Black, the team’s vice president of public relations.

There will be more cameras, more monitoring devices and more personnel looking for problems. A New Year’s Day no-fly zone over the parade and the Rose Bowl has been imposed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Even with all the security we still rely on parade-goers.
