Personnel of Delhi Police in huge numbers were seen on the road overseeing the implementation of the scheme. According to this rule, cars running on petrol or diesel, will be allowed to run on the streets of the city on alternate days depending on whether their licence plates end in even or odd number.
Valid from 8 a.m.to 8 p.m. daily except on Sundays, the vehicle regulation kickstarted on Friday.
The scheme has been started today from 8 am to 8 pm on a trial basis for fifteen days. Just under three million of these are private cars or vans, and another 1,400 are added every day. Similarly, the Even numbered non-transport four wheeled vehicles (motor cars etc.) would be allowed to park on even dates only. Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra will ride a bike to office.
Violations of odd-even scheme will attract a fine of Rs 2,000.
Civil defence volunteers of Delhi hit the roads to make a odd-even plan a success.
Vehicles carrying medical emergencies, women, VIPs, CNG cars and two-wheelers have been exempted from this odd-even formula.
Delhi government has also tied up with several agencies on social media to provide help to commuters and create a mass consensus for the contentious scheme.
The Delhi government has arranged for 3,000 extra buses to ply in the city to facilitate movement while Delhi Metro will be running 70 extra trips across all its corridors for the period during which the restrictions are in place.
