The famous comedian had nothing to say when he was charged with aggravated indecent assault for an alleged sex crime more than a decade old.
Andrea Constand, who described Cosby as a mentor, alleges he drugged and sexually assault her while in his Philadelphia-area home in 2004.
The charge of aggravated indecent assault is punishable by five to 10 years in prison and a $25,000 fine.

As CBS News’ Kenneth Craig reported, Cosby remained free on bail Thursday after his arrest and arraignment a day earlier on a sexual assault charge.
Cosby did not enter a plea yesterday and spoke only to say he understood the charges, and to ask for clarification on the terms of his $1m bail. Geragos, who is not involved in the case, added: “Generally, time is a friend of the defense”.
“For many of my 29 clients who alleged that they are victims of Bill Cosby, seeing him criminally charged and having to face a trial, is the best Christmas present that they have ever received”, said attorney Gloria Allred. The judge could decide such testimony would be unfair to Mr. Cosby. They typically require prosecutors to prove it is directly relevant. The greater challenge, she said, lies in finding an impartial jury for a fair trial, given the extensive publicity of some 50 women who have come forward with accusations of sexual assault.
Lindy helped defend a Catholic Church official whose child-endangerment conviction for shielding a pedophile priest was overturned by an appeals court in December. “He wants you to go up to his room.’ I said to them, ‘Come with me, I don’t want to go up there alone” and when we went up there he was so pissed that I brought these guys with me. “And people are also going to have opinions about the case”. Back in 2005, local law enforcement investigated and the district attorney for Montgomery County in Pennsylvania decided not to pursue charges at the time – although he said the case might be reopened. “Upon examination of all the evidence, today we are able to seek justice on behalf of the victim”.
“Over a decade later, one hot campaign later, we’re here”, Pressley said.
Steele was traveling and not available for comment. The 78-year-old comedian previously said under oath that he had consensual sexual contact with the woman. Then in the related civil case, Cosby admitted to giving Quaaludes to young women he wanted to have sex with.
Information for this article was contributed by Maryclaire Dale, Errin Haines Whack, Michael R. Sisak, John Rogers and Ben Nuckols of The Associated Press.
They could tell a jury what happened to them to make the woman accusing Cosby appear more credible, and to establish a pattern of behaviour.

In his deposition, Mr. Cosby said he gave Ms. Constand three half-pills of Benadryl for stress without telling her what they were.
