TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin has been suspended from Saturday’s Alamo Bowl, according to TCU head coach Garry Patterson. At that point, police say bike officers arrived and came upon Boykin as he was taking swings and say the player indiscriminately hit an officer.

Boykin was charged with assaulting a public servant, a third-degree felony.

At a Thursday morning news conference, San Antonio Police chief William McManus confirmed reports that Boykin, 22, and some teammates were at Pat O’Brien’s just before 2 a.m. when some patrons recognized the quarterback and began to trash-talk. Even after walking away, Boykin went back to the scene and charged officers, striking one in the face.

McManus said friends with Boykin had previously tried to escort him back to the TCU team hotel before the encounter with the officer and he also confirmed that Boykin was subdued only after being threatened with a taser. He had 3,574 yards passing and 31 touchdowns. He finished 10th in the voting for the Heisman Trophy after finishing fourth in 2014.
