Auburn 31, Memphis 10
For the first time since the first half of the Louisville game to start the season the Auburn defense was healthy. That came at midfield after Auburn stopped Memphis for no gain on a fourth down and two play.

Worth Noting: Peyton Barber went past the 1,000-yard mark for rushing, stretching Auburn’s streak to seven seasons with at least one player doing that.
Jeremy Johnson helped Auburn close out the season in fine fashion Wednesday when he came off the bench to lead the Tigers to a 31-10 victory over Memphis in the Birmingham Bowl. Auburn (7-6) prevented the 1st losing season of Gus Malzahn’s 11-year college coaching profession. “I think we need to pick up on defense a little bit more, and actually score some more points”.
But that was the last time Memphis would sniff the end zone. Sure they had a lot of time to prepare and get healthy, but this was by far the best that defense has looked all year.
In the days and hours leading up to kickoff, speculation about the replacement for Will Muschamp at defensive coordinator surrounded Auburn. And it’s all because of a football – rather one Memphis player’s intense desire to take one.
In a bowl matchup of the SEC and the AAC, the Auburn Tigers used a dominant defense to roll to a 31-10 win over the Memphis Tigers in Birmingham. And the topper? Marcus Davis’ 56-yard punt return, one that turned a good win into a rout. Afterward, the junior said he would talk with his family and coaches before making a decision about whether to return or enter the draft. Jovon Robinson rushed for 122 yards to lead the winners’ attack.
Lynch passed for better than 300 yards in eight straight games during one point in the season and the Tigers’ averaged 324.2 yards passing during the year.
Memphis #38 tables auburn ball, steals ball and runs of the field! He accounted for seven TDs to match an NCAA bowl record in last season’s Miami Beach Bowl.
“We have a great relationship”, Johnson said. “We really wanted to put pressure on the quarterback”.
Auburn held Memphis to 206 total yards and made up for a tepid offense, which had four turnovers. That’s what would have been remembered most about the game – would have. Sean White, a red-shirt freshman, has played in six games and completed 75-of-130 passes for 1,064 yards and a touchdown. The play – Ball’s second interception of the game – occurred shortly after second-team All-America kicker Jake Elliott had a field-goal attempt blocked.
Prescott threw two touchdown passes to Brandon Holloway in the second half to break it open for the Bulldogs (9-4). Memphis is allowing just 3.4 yards a carry.

“The future is very bright”, Malzahn said. He went 8-of-14 with 103 yards and two picks. Auburn drilled a 20-yard field goal to take a 3-0 lead.
