“The explosion happened in Qala-e-Fathullah neighborhood of Kabul city. Apparently a restaurant has been attacked”, interior ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi said.
There were no immediate reports on casualties or damage.
Pakistan, which is said to have political sway over the militant group, held historic talks in July 2015.
Senior officials from Afghanistan, Pakistan, United States and China will meet in the Pakistani capital of Islamabad in January to work out a roadmap for the revival of stalled peace talks between the Afghan government and Taliban representatives, Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said on Thursday.
The direct line has been established between the Director Generals Military Operations of both the countries while “pursuing decision in the Army Chief General Raheel Sharif’s visit to Kabul on December 27”, the army spokesman, Lt. Gen Asim Bajwa said.
Earlier this week, the Taliban claimed responsibility for a suicide attack near Kabul airport that killed one person and wounded 33 others. The talks were cancelled after the death of the Taliban leader, Mullah Omar, was revealed.
