Ben Carson’s Campaign Rocked by a Major Shakeup
The news, first reported by the Des Moines Register, comes after Carson himself promised a campaign shake-up to right the once-insurgent candidate’s ship.

A big shakeup in Ben Carson’s campaign: three of his top staffers have resigned. Along with Bennett and Watts, deputy campaign manager Lisa Coen also left.
In this photo taken September 30, 2015, Ben Carson for President Campaign Communications Director Doug Watts is seen at the Carso… Ben Carson throughout an interview with The Related Press in his home in Upperco, Maryland, last week. “I think he should listen to a multitude of advisers, inside the campaign and outside the campaign”. We all come together and advise him. “We’ve been with Dr. Carson since the beginning of this operation”.
The retired neurosurgeon’s campaign has been struggling from staffing disagreements and high levels of spending in recent months.
With the attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, California, elevating national security concerns among voters, Carson has been criticized by rivals for his lack of foreign policy experience.
In spite of the poll numbers, Carson’s campaign on Wednesday announced a fourth-quarter fundraising haul of about $23 million, and Bennett said Carson remained in a strong position. “No one wants Armstrong Williams anywhere near the Oval Office”. Williams, who says he spoke with Carson after the candidate spoke with Bennett, described Carson as “calm, confident, reassured and ready to move forward”. Bennett, suspecting that Carson was once again following Williams’s advice instead of his, quit on the spot.
Driving the sudden departures were long-simmering tensions between Bennett and Armstrong Williams, Carson’s confidant and business adviser.
“This allows Dr. Carson a fresh start”, Williams said. “I’m sure they’ll figure it out.”…
Williams told CNN earlier this month he believes the campaign needs to step up its efforts in briefing Carson before public appearances.
Carson’s foreign policy credentials were called into question, especially after he repeatedly mispronounced Hamas as “hummus” while addressing a group of prominent Republican Jews.

“Watts added that both he and Bennett wish “[Carson] and his campaign the best of luck”. Carson’s team has done a bang-up job not only of finding small donors – they’ve received contributions from 600,000 individual entities since March – but of finding ones who typically don’t make political donations.
