“I demand Prime Minister Modi’s resignation for the fraudulent raid he ordered to save (Finance Minister) Arun Jaitley”, who had headed the DDCA for years, the Aam Aadmi Party leader said to thumping of desks by his party colleagues.
Jaitley had sought Rs 10 crore in damages, claiming that the statements made by the AAP leaders have caused “irreversible damage” to his reputation.
Striking a similar note, CPI-M General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said by drawing a parallel with Advani, the Prime Minister is giving a hint to Arun Jaitley that he should resign, get himself cleared and come back.
He asked Jaitley to cooperate with the Commission of Enquiry set up by his government and prove his innocence. KEJRIWAL’S REPLY: PROBE COMMISSION A defiant Kejriwal asserted that AAP won’t be intimidated by the case and asked Jaitley to cooperate with the probe commission set up looked into the alleged irregularities in DDCA.
He said the CBI was probing the evasion of entertainment tax due to the sale of underpriced tickets for elite hospitality boxes at the Ferozeshah Kotla Ground here.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi broke his silence on Arun Jaitley today, finally batting for his finance minister and most steadfast political ally in the BJP one week after corruption charges erupted against him.
Congress raised the issue of the bill being not listed yesterday because of public protests over the December 16 gangrape case, in which the juvenile convict has been released, he said, adding that the government immediately put it on supplementary agenda. He demanded a CBI probe into his allegations, and signed off by reminding the House, “and we know who was heading the DDCA between 2008 and 2013”, a reference to Mr Jaitley.
Punia, who released documents to support his claim, said Jaitley “tried to mislead Parliament today when he said the SFIO (Serious Fraud Investigation Office), had not found him guilty of anything”.
Such a conduct by the Chief Minister had also the potential of tarnishing the image of the country in global relations, the complainant alleged.
