Indian High Commissioner Calls On PM Nawaz
From Kabul, on his way to Delhi, Modi stopped off in Lahore to meet Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif the same day before returning to Delhi after a couple of hours.

Aziz said the visit of Modi was a goodwill visit and it has been welcomed by majority of people in Pakistan and India and the global community.
Army chief Gen. Raheel Sharif is said to be close to the new national security adviser, recently retired general Naseer Khan Janjua, who in October replaced civilian Sartaj Aziz, an ally of the prime minister.
In an interview with the Indian Express earlier this month, Blinken said he feared a terrorist attack in India could “spark off a large-scale conflict” with Pakistan, adding, “The only thing worse than an intentional conflict is an unintentional conflict, where an incident sparks something and it spirals out of control”.
The report said that PM Modi’s views was greatly appreciated in the Sharif household.
He said major political parties, including the Pakistan People’s Party and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, had consensus on peace and enhanced people-to-people contacts between the two countries.
Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar and other Indian officials were also present.
The address by the Prime Minister lasted just about 20 minutes in which he greeted the country for the festive season and said that the government will design the Start-Up India programme according to the needs of the country. Sharma’s narrow vision which only considered the headline-grabbing feat of Modi most likely caused him to sound most acerbic on an occasion which needed at least a qualified nod, if for nothing else than the fact that after too many flip-flops Modi had at last seen merit in engaging our estranged neighbor.
Experts here believe that the frequent summit meetings are created to put pressure on bureaucrats to carve out a road map for peace, ahead of Modi’s tete-a tete in Islamabad with Sharif in September, on the sidelines of the SAARC summit.
Modi’s visit, though short, was full of bonhomie between the two PMs. “It’s a new Modi in an old bottle; Nawaz Sharif should take it one sip at a time”.
As most well-informed commentators in both countries pointed out, the element of surprise was key in the Modi visit. “As we have long said, improved relations among neighbours will benefit the entire region”, spokesperson John Kirby said on Saturday. “It was agreed that overseas secretaries will meet in Islamabad subsequent month”, Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chowdhury. The same fate awaited Pakistan’s de-facto Foreign Minister, Sartaj Aziz; he, too, was conspicuous by his absence in Lahore.

A source at Sharif’s Jati Umrah residence told PTI that Sharif had donned the “Indian Rajasthani pink turban” gifted to him by Modi during the Indian premier’s visit on Friday. Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, meanwhile, tweeted: “Neighbors’ relations should be like this”.
