Westbrook rallies Thunder past Nuggets, 122-112
Former league MVP Kevin Durant is one of the players that hasn’t gotten the attention he deserves, but he reminded everyone on Friday that he’s still one of the best players in the world.

Jimmy Butler scored 23 points, and Pau Gasol had 21 points and 13 rebounds in Chicago’s victory over host Oklahoma City on Friday.
In a game that featured several skirmishes, the Bulls outrebounded the NBA’s No. 2 rebounding team 53-48.
“We’ve just got to go out there and attack”, Gibson told The Associated Press.
But Lakers veteran Kobe Bryant was again feeling the physical strain, this time with a sore right knee. “We just have to get in the weight room and get a little stronger”. We’re with each other 24-7. It looked as if they were playing harder and executing better, which of course is always nice to see.
Kevin Durant recorded his eighth double-double of the season with 26 points and 10 assists for the Thunder, who have won 10 of their last 12 games but were coming off a Christmas Day loss at home to Chicago.
Durant fed rookie Cameron Payne for a corner 3-pointer in the final minute of the quarter and the Thunder led 91-90 heading into the fourth. “We don’t live in a real patient society, I’ll say that”, Hoiberg said. “And they got us”. Denver has lost six straight trips to Oklahoma City.
All the effort the Thunder made to erase that early deficit went to waste on the third quarter.
“If you try to get it all back in one play, try to get a steal, try to come down and shoot a pull-up 3 – just doing stupid stuff that we did all night, it will be tough to win”, Durant said.
Chicago led 51-37 with 4:58 left in the first half, but the Thunder cut it to 54-52 at halftime.
This is the first time the two teams are meeting and have only one other scheduled battle in the regular season so getting the win in their first clash is important for both squads.
Well, we got our answer right away as the Bulls jumped out to an 11-0 lead which led to a Billy Donovan timeout. The line-up of Durant, Westbrook, forward Serge Ibaka, Kanter and guard Anthony Morrow quickly closed the gap to 12 with 6min 59sec left. Butler’s actions were (rightfully) watched closely after he said the Bulls needed to be coached harder.
The good news is that the Nuggets made nine 3-pointers to only eight for the Thunder, but the bad news is that they took 25 from long range to only 15 for the Thunder. Morrow and Kanter don’t start, in part, because of defensive shortcomings, but that group held the Bulls to 6-for-20 shooting. “Put bodies in front of him and make sure somebody contested him at the rim, and compete”.

On Nov. 5, the Thunder had squandered another late lead, this time against the Chicago Bulls on the road. Here is the shot chart for the Nuggets from the first quarter and it paints a pretty clear picture of what the Nuggets need to focus on in order to run an effective offense.
