Hard-fought legal battles expected in the Bill Cosby case
Thomson ReutersActor and comedian Bill Cosby arrives with attorney for his arraignment on sexual assault charges at the Montgomery County Courthouse in Elkins Park, PennsylvaniaBill Cosby has tweeted a brief message to fans following his arrest on a sexual assault charge. “The best Christmas present they’ve ever received”, attorney Gloria Allred said of women she is representing in their civil claims against Mr. Cosby.

His lawyer has said the charge is unjustified and predicted his client will be exonerated.
The charges, and a potentially lengthy trial that is bound to be a media spectacle, would put Cosby under a microscope like never before.
Although Camille Cosby in her motion lamented the potential violation of marital communications and the “shame and embarrassment” of answering questions about her husband’s “alleged infidelities and marital misconduct”, these factors do not outweigh “the potential significance” of her testimony, Hennessy ruled.
At that, Montgomery County prosecutors have their work cut out for them.
The last time Cosby himself posted something on his Twitter account was in August, when he directed his followers (he has 4.1 million) to a TV interview with his lawyer/spokeswoman, Monique Pressley.
If convicted of aggravated indecent assault, Cosby could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison and fined $25,000.
Of the dozens of women who have come forward accusing Bill Cosby of attacking them over the last five decades, many say the assaults took place in the Los Angeles area.
Two of the pending civil suits allege that Cosby abused women. But in almost every case, it is too late to file criminal charges. Per CNN, Cosby handed over his passport and did not enter a plea.
In the Pennsylvania case, unlike numerous cases in L.A., prosecutors have the advantage that the incident was reported to police less than a year after Cosby’s alleged drugging and assaulting of Temple University employee Andrea Constand. One exception: a 2008 case still under investigation in Los Angeles.
Weeks after the decision not to prosecute Cosby in 2005, Constand sued Cosby for sexual battery.
On the Cosby Show, Bill played a doctor and a family man, and in real life, Cosby has been known to scold young men as a whole for what he believes to be irresponsible behavior.

It is, indeed, largely he said-she said.
