Manchester City hope to get to bottom of Vincent Kompany’s calf problems
Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri has underscored the unpredictable nature of the Premier League this season, stating that it seemed as if “nobody wants to win the league”.

While Arsenal now lead the Premier League, they have sustained long-term injuries throughout the season.
“In seconds I found maybe 10 or 12 reasons to say: ‘Paulo, we need to be happy.’ We are competitive, we have a good connection with the fans, they are happy, we are in a good position, we are playing well and have the possibility to win a lot”. It is, in Pellegrini’s words, “a good position” going into the second half of the season, but it represents a significantly lower points total than they had accrued at the same stage in previous years.
However, Manchester City are now without a win in six away games in the Premier League – a record that has prevented them building fully on their flying start to the season. While Marc Albrighton failed to convert on a great cross from Christian Fuchs, a turnover by Manchester’s Fernandinho left the ball on the foot of Jamie Vardy, who shares the Premier League scoring lead with Everton’s Romelu Lukaku. Now just three points behind the leaders.
“We now want more, we are not used to losing, when we lose against Tottenham in the last minute and draw with Chelsea in a tough match, we want more, we are not happy with those situations, it is very good”.
But City boss Pellegrini said he would resist the temptation to sign a new centre-back, despite ongoing doubts over the reliability of £42million defender Eliaquim Mangala.
“I hope this is the part of the season for Kompany and the second part he will be fit, but if not, of course, we must try to do everything we can do to try to know why”.
Manuel Pellegrini suggested Manchester City will not make any signings in the January transfer window as he declared they already have a “complete squad”. We played very well Sunderland and I think we played very well also against Leicester.
A win for Watford on Saturday would put them just four points behind Man City and possibly take them up to fifth depending on other results.
“But we are in the correct way”.
But there are genuine concerns about the long-term health of Kompany, who has suffered numerous injuries and months on the sidelines during his City career.
Pellegrini, however, does not share that view: “It’s hard to analyse it and put the word “worst”, he said.

“They have continued being an awesome team, but we have changed a little bit our mentality”.
