Firefighters yesterday appeared to have mostly extinguished a blaze that suddenly engulfed one of Dubai’s most prominent skyscrapers on New Year’s Eve, said witnesses.

Ethan Couch said his parents had always “yelled at each other a lot”, and he wished that they “wouldn’t put him in the middle”. On Aug. 10, Tonya Couch sold her 3,964-square-foot house at 1719 Burleson Retta Road in Burleson, deed records show.

“There are huge flames, and you can hear the structure falling and the thuds”, he said.

This morning, some white smoke was seen coming from the 63-storey building.

Dubai Civil Defence said the fire broke out at around 9:00 pm on Thursday and the initial information indicates that it originated from the 20th floor of the hotel.

Flames and smoke billow out of the Address Downtown hotel in Dubai on December 31.

Another guest, Angus Villar, was on the 15th floor of the building pouring champagne as he and his family prepared to celebrate the New Year.

The National newspaper reported in March 2015 that “inflammable cladding materials, comprising plastic or polyurethane fillings” were also blamed for spreading fires at both the Al Baker Tower 4 and the Al Tayer Tower in Sharjah in 2012.

Ms Williams said she and her husband managed to reach safety in a nearby shopping mall. The aluminum material includes a plastic component, he said.

A medic said that over 60 people suffered light injuries due to inhalation of smoke and from crowding while in the stairs evacuating the building. She is an anchor for CNN International.

Incredibly no one was killed in the incident at The Address, which lit up the Dubai skyline three hours before midnight.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the fire has been contained, however.

A Reuters correspondent saw police evacuating a viewing area near the base of the Burj Khalifa. In under two minutes, the fire went up two-thirds of the length of the hotel. I think people just really couldn’t believe what was happening. Dubai’s economy depends heavily on tourism, and New Year’s is one of the busiest seasons, drawing people from around the world to watch the fireworks that the emirate puts on at the world’s tallest tower, as well as the sail-shaped Burj Al Arab and over a man-made palm-shaped island.

Dennis Mallari had hoped to photograph Dubai’s fireworks display from a balcony of the 302m (990ft) Address skyscraper.

Just a few blocks away, the scene was dramatically different.

The Dubai government’s media office said the Address blaze was 90 percent under control. “By the time I walked out the whole building was just ablaze”, he said.

The hotel, a favorite for global celebrities and wealthy travelers, was reportedly fully booked with people who had come to see the fireworks.
