Since no one had all of the matching numbers, it will roll to Saturday night’s drawing, bringing the jackpot to $344 million, lottery officials said.
New Powerball rules – mainly enlarging the matrix for drawing the six balls – went into effect in October, with the changes meant to produce bigger jackpots.
The mystery victor purchased the ticket at The Wine Rack, a liquor store located at 5768 Santa Teresa Blvd.in San Jose.
Saturday night, Powerball players have a shot at a $334 million annuity worth $205 million cash.
Between the two games, North Carolinians have won six jackpots between $12 million and $188 million.
