No tsunami, injuries or damage were expected from the quake, and BC Hydro did not report any power outages as a result.
The magnitude-4.4 quake hit in foothills northwest of San Bernardino about 5:38 p.m.at a depth of about three miles, a report from the U.S. Geological Survey said.
Anywhere between zero and 50 aftershocks was “normal” within hours of a 4.4-magnitude quake, according to seismologist Lucy Jones, with the USGS and Caltech.
Two earthquakes hit California on Tuesday evening and rattled both the northern and southern portions of the state.
SkyTrain’s Expo and Millennium lines were shut down for approximately an hour as a safety precaution to ensure the elevated guideways were not damaged by the tremors.
It was also felt strongly on Vancouver Island and elsewhere on the B.C. South Coast.
“But it’s very clearly is a good reminder of the seismicity in this region, that we live in a very active quake zone”.
The City of Vancouver has tweeted that there are “no known reports of significant quake damage”. He said the agency had not recorded any aftershocks.
“It was felt by thousands of people across British Columbia to distances of about 200 kilometres”, he said. Washington residents said pictures fell off shelves and the shaking woke them up.All of a sudden, my whole house was out of control, Kellen Lamborn of Anacortes told Seattle television station KOMO-TV.
