PM Modi, Sonia Gandhi express grief over BSF aircraft crash
His comments came even as family members of the personnel confronted Home Minister Rajnath Singh with questions like “Why are old aircraft being used and lives of troops put at risk?” A new date would be announced later, said a press release of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). “The aircraft was completely burnt and all the personnel (on board) were charred to death in the crash”, a BSF statement said. “The Ranchi bound chartered flight took off from Runway 28 of IGI Airport at 9:37 am and crashed within minutes outside the airport boundary wall”. The aircraft lost contact with the Air Traffic Control, at 9.50 am, they said.

“All the crew on board have died in the crash”, junior aviation minister Mahesh Sharma said. The plane, he said, was carrying the stipulated load yesterday and refuted reports that the crash had something to do with excess weight as a few personnel were asked to board it at the last moment.
He asserted that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and BSF’s internal enquiry team is probing the matter. The plane, which was to return to Delhi the same evening, was ferrying the BSF’s technical personnel to Ranchi where they were assigned to fix a Mi-17 V5 chopper that was engaged in anti-naxal operations.
After briefing Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the crash, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has arrived at the crash site to take stock of the situation. “We can only tell after the inquiry what were the reasons or lapses resulted in this incident”, Sharma added.
The BSF Superking aircraft was carrying paramilitary technicians.
“We saw a plane spiraling down which crashed into the wall where work was going on”. “It will tell us what transpired in the cockpit, especially after the pilot detected the snag and banked left instead of right towards Ranchi”, said an official.

Eyewitnesses said the plane hit a wall before bursting into flames and then crashed into a water body. “My thoughts are with the families of the deceased”, Prime Minister Modi said in a tweet. “7 persons fell into the septic tank after the crash”, chief fire officer said. “It already has a number of challenges to meet vis-a-vis keeping the two most important borders of the country with Pakistan and Bangaldesh secure and this accident is surely a big test of nerves for the top brass and the government”, another official serving in the wing said.
