North Korean leader talks war but doesn’t comment on nukes
In his address, North Korean President Kim Jong-un asked for renewed relations with South Korea while issuing threats to “outsiders”.

No further details surrounding the nature of the crash were given, prompting analysts to question the cause of the fatal incident.
During those meetings, North Korean representatives insisted on discussing only the resumption of the Kumgangsan tourist venture, a special region in North Korea for South Korean tourists, which has been a cash cow for the regime.
The fourth politician in North Korea and the secretary of ruling Worker’s party, Kim Yang-gon have fallen victim to an unexplained “traffic accident” since 2003.
Top official Choe Ryong Hae, who had been absent from state media since late October and was rumored to have been in internal exile, was listed as a member of the funeral committee.
Kim Yang-gon’s death in a vehicle accident might be interpreted as paying the ultimate price for the collapse of the inter-Korean mini-detente following the August agreement. The two sides held follow-up high-level talks earlier this month to talk about the reconciliation project, but the negotiations broke off without any agreement.
Kim pledged to develop North Korea’s moribund economy and raise living standards, although North Korean leaders have been saying that for decades.
In his very first public address, at a military parade in April 2012, Kim had said he was determined that North Koreans would “never have to tighten their belts again”.
“He had enemies in the leadership who could do something like this without impunity, or at least it being linked directly to them”, he told Reuters. With North Korea reporting Kim Yang-gon’s cause of death as a traffic accident, there is likely to be rampant speculation that Kim was killed during a power struggle and his death disguised as an accident. “In light of inter-Korean relations, this is a big loss”, a former senior official with considerable experience negotiating with Kim Yang-gon said on December 30. That said, other North Korean elites may now be more wary of getting into their cars.
“There are nearly no cars and security for high-officials traveling in cars is extremely tight”.

In October, the chief of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) warned that North Korea now has sufficient nuclear capacity to attack the United States mainland, but added that American air defenses would be able to shoot down any incoming warhead.
