Wenger keeping Ozil’s batteries charged to go the distance
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says the club will be “busy” during the January transfer window in an effort to bolster a squad bidding for the Premier League title. “Ozil was the focal point of our team”, Wenger said after goals from the German and defender Gilberto, from an Ozil corner, clinched a crucial victory against Bournemouth that sent Arsenal one point clear at the top of the Premier League.

Ozil has already provided 16 assists this season and was on the scoresheet himself in Arsenal’s last outing against Bournemouth.
Ozil has been a model of consistency for the Gunners as he has started 18 of their 19 league games – a statistic which takes on added importance given the injuries suffered by midfield colleagues Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere and Alexis Sanchez.
And Gunners boss Wenger, who was criticised for over-playing Sanchez before he pulled up with a hamstring injury against Norwich last month, is giving Ozil time to rest to avoid burnout.
“Mesut has told me to keep making runs”, Walcott said.
“Unfortunately we can not announce anything at the moment about this player [Elneny] because nothing has been concluded”, said Wenger.
“This season he was not stopped by injuries and I believe that he arrives at an age – 27 – that you think “it’s time for me to really be efficient in every single game, and I want to enjoy every single game”.
“Players came in against Bournemouth who haven’t been playing too much and they did fantastically well and that just shows the strength in depth we have in this team and the pressure of places”.
Mesut Ozil is playing the best football of his career, according to Arsenal team-mate Theo Walcott.

Few around St James’ Park will need reminding of the Magpies’ trip to the Emirates on December 29 2012 when they returned on the wrong end of a remarkable 7-3 scoreline, with Walcott plundering a hat-trick and Giroud claiming a double. “On entertainment? Then look at the audiences of the Premier League and of the rest of the world, then you come to give me an answer, and its yes”. As 2016 dawns, Premier League front-runners Arsenal go in search of evidence that they are capable of striking out on their own in pursuit of a first title since 2004. “If things go well, they have a bunch of young players”.
