Sights from Canadiens’ win over Bruins in NHL Winter Classic
Friday was the 910th all-time meeting between the two franchises and featured several New England born players such as Bruins fourth liner Jimmy Hayes and Canadiens starting goaltender Mike Condon.

“They were all over us”, said Julien.
Therrien began prepping for Gallagher’s return in the third period of their most recent game against the Florida Panthers. “The Bruins still have a lot of big guys, and for us, I always think we have the most success just playing to our strengths, and that’s playing the game fast and not gooning it up”, said winger Lars Eller, who fought Hayes at the end.
The final attendance count says that 67,246 packed Gillette Stadium to watch a hockey game. “I didn’t miss trying to peel Chara off his back”. Friday they outshot and outscored the Bruins immensely, playing strong defense and pushing Boston out of their zone so effectively that there was a ten-minute period during the game where the Bruins didn’t register a single shot on goal.
After some complaints about the ice surface at Thursday’s practice, Friday’s conditions ended up being flawless for the Winter Classic. Carey Price was supposed to centre stage for this one, but he’s out with a right knee injury.
So, while the divisional foes see each other on the ice fairly often, it’s still hard not to get at least a little bit hyped for the Winter Classic on New Year’s Day. “Anything can happen. So you’ve just to make sure you’re prepared for the opportunities you get”.
Despite Montreal’s domination, Boston appeared to cut the lead in half on the power play six minutes later when Matt Beleskey found the back of the net. He said he took the occasional glance at the crowd, but mainly focused on making the next save. The Canadiens made it 3-0 late in the period when Pacioretty, who later scored his 16th goal, batted the puck of the air toward Gallagher, who also knocked it out of the air for his first goal since November 20.
Montreal had a 3-0 lead when the Bruins’ Ryan Spooner had a golden opportunity, but his quality scoring chance was snubbed when Condon flashed a glove save. “After that save, we went into the dressing room feeling pretty good about ourselves”.
It is a role that Weise played for most of the season, and played very successfully with Desharnais and Fleischmann.
Over the course of the second period Montreal picked up consecutive penalties.
“It’s tough to lose him”, said Desharnais. With the effort the Bruins put forth, the Habs could have played this game with their helmets on backwards and still won going away.

Although watching outdoor games is quite an enjoyable experience and one that I look forward to every year, the fun of the events has worn off for me somewhat, thanks in no small part to the Stadium Series and its numerous outdoor hockey games. They were all over us.
