Florida mother shoots daughter she thought was intruder
Police in the U.S. state of Florida say a mother has fatally shot her daughter after mistaking her for an intruder.

Ashley Doby, 27, was pronounced dead Wednesday, hours after mom Sherry Campbell, a 911 dispatcher with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, fired a shot into her daughter’s chest after the woman awoke to noises inside the home. She died at a hospital.
Detectives are investigating the case but said the mother’s story matches evidence at the scene.
Someone who resides in home in St. Cloud, Fla., is in law enforcement so the identities of those involved will not be released per Florida statute, according to Sgt. Denise Roberts of the St. Cloud Police Department.
Roberts said she didn’t know if the daughter lived in the same house with her mother.
Campbell omitted that fact because he was asleep when his wife shot Doby, mistaking her for an intruder, police said.
The shooting appears to be accidental, police said.
St Cloud police officials were quoted as saying that Sherry is a 911 dispatcher for Osceola County and her husband – Claude Campbell – is a St Cloud police corporal.
Neighbors said they were surprised that the shooting took place because of how safe the neighborhood is.
It was her 27-year-old daughter who was visiting for the holidays. The mother was also taken to the same hospital, according to the release.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will not be investigating because the shooter was not a police officer. “I’ve been here for 14 years, and nothing like this has ever happened”. He is now on administrative leave for family medical reasons.
