Iran Denies it Fired Rockets Near U.S. Warships in Key Strait
Under the current circumstances, such false news are spread merely as part of a “psychological war”, General Sharif said.

“Iran hasn’t conduct any military drills in the Strait of Hormuz and doesn’t launch any rockets”, TASS cited the representative of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC), Ramazan Sharif, as saying. A French frigate and the USS Bulkeley destroyer were also in the area.
The firing came just 23 minutes after Iranian authorities gave naval traffic in the area notice, said Navy Commander Kyle Raines, spokesman for US Central Command, according to Reuters.
But Saturday’s incident brought no immediate response from Iranian officials or media, while French authorities downplayed its danger.
However, the U.S. is preparing to impose sanctions on firms in Iran, Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates, which it deems to be tied to Iran’s ballistic missile programme.
Earlier this month, the International Atomic Energy Agency board, composed of 35 nations, voted to close its 12-year investigation into the possible military dimensions of the Iranian nuclear programme.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has since told his defense minister to quicken the pace on Iran’s ballistic-missile program, following the announcement of new sanctions against Iranian individuals.
Such a step by the US Treasury Department would be the first American sanctions against Iran since the nuclear agreement and presents a potential barrier to its durability. In the past, Iran has threatened to block the strait, which lies at the entrance of the Persian Gulf.
The Strait of Hormuz is only about 33 kilometres wide at its narrowest point between Iran and Oman.
An Iranian Revolutionary Guards spokesman dismissed the USA claim as a “psychological operation”. They said Iran’s navy gave a radio announcement less than an hour before firing the missiles telling ships to steer clear of the area.

Hardliners in Iran have carried out a wave of arrests of activists they accuse of promoting Western “infiltration”, while the United States passed a law restricting visa-free travel rights for people who have visited Iran or hold dual Iranian nationality, a measure Iran has called a breach of the deal.
