South Africa’s No. 1 pacer ruled out of second Test against England
Anderson, 33, was hardly missed in Durban as England bowled out South Africa for 214 and 174 en route to a 241-run victory but is set to return in place of Chris Woakes.

Anderson missed the first Test with a calf injury but Cook revealed that the signs are “quite positive” and a decision on his availability for the second Test will be taken on Saturday.
Johannesburg, Jan.1: South Africa have called in their former skipper Graeme Smith as an adviser for the remaining Tests of the four-match series against England.
The Proteas were soundly beaten in the first Test in Durban on Wednesday and have already had to call up paceman Hardus Viljoen as cover for Kyle Abbott, who is struggling with a hamstring injury.
“Winning in Durban took a lot out of us”, said Cook.
“We should watch out to not get carried away”.
Kagiso Rabada replaces Steyn for his fourth test appearance, South Africa captain Hashim Amla said on Friday.
Smith is now commentating for Test Match Special and SuperSport and will be playing in the Masters Champions League this year.
“You’ve got to be really careful with heart and head – he’s desperate to play but we have to make sure it is the right decision”.
Captain Alastair Cook stated Anderson was “determined” to play however England needed to rigorously think about altering a profitable staff. South Arica shouldn’t be hoping, and waiting on the return of Vernon Philander to return for the third test, as it could be all too much for him and Dale Steyn to do on their returns.
South Africa have not won a Test since last year s New Year fixture against the West Indies at the same venue.
If De Kock, who scored a century in a domestic Sunfoil Series game for the Titans this week, does play he’ll hopefully add some substance to a seriously brittle batting lineup that had it’s confidence shaken in India and then decimated in Durban as a collapse on the final morning – where six wickets fell for just 38 runs – handed the visitors an early advantage.
Smith was present at nets in Cape Town today, working alongside the team’s misfiring batsmen having been approached by Cricket South Africa.
“When you win or lose a cricket game you are either going to be praised or there is criticism”, said Amla. “Graeme has got a lot of value to add and we’ve got to tap into that”. If we’d bowled 140 overs in the dirt in Durban and then had a two-day turnaround in 40 degrees, which it has been here, that’s a gruelling ask to keep the standards up.

“Graeme has got a good know-how about Test cricket and that’s what Test cricket is about”. “Graeme knows more than most how it is to play Test cricket and to go through tough times”.
