Florida mother guns down daughter in ‘accidental shooting’
Police say an Osceola County homeowner mistook her own daughter for an intruder late Tuesday night and shot the young woman dead, CBS affiliate WKMG reports.

Police said that the mother was sleeping when she heard something that sounded like an intruder at around 11:51 p.m. on Tuesday, the Orlando Sentinel reported. The woman then discovered it was her daughter. That noise was actually the sound of her daughter, Ashley Doby, moving about the house. Her death is being characterised by St Cloud Police as an “accidental shooting”, according to Roberts.
“The homeowner’s story is consistent with the physical evidence and the witness’ statement”, Roberts said in a news release on Wednesday.
The woman told police she fired a single shot when she heard the footsteps approaching quickly. The homeowner was also taken to the hospital for observation. “Please, please … oh my God”.
Police said the shooting appears to be accidental, but the investigation is ongoing.
Because the shooter wasn’t a law enforcement officer, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will not be investigating.

Ashley Doby/via Twitter Ashley Doby, 27, was shot and killed by her mother Sherry Campbell in St. Cloud, Fla., after Campbell believed there was an intruder in the house. “It’s usually very quiet”. The Associated Press isn’t naming the family members because of the husband’s past work as an undercover narcotics officer, as well as the fact that no criminal charges have been filed.
