Arsene Wenger resting Mesut Ozil between matches to keep Arsenal star fresh
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is concerned that overplaying in-form playmaker Mesut Ozil could result in the German picking up an injury.

Arsenal have been top four times going into the new year but managed to close out their title challenge on just one of those occasions.
Wenger addressed the media on Wednesday ahead of Saturday’s Premier League visit of Newcastle and dismissed claims Wilshere may yet be ruled out for the entire season.
“It will be special and when we play them away it is my birthday so, hopefully, it’ll be a good moment for me and the team”.
Wenger’s side have been top three times in the previous 14 years before this one but in none of those seasons have they gone on to lift the trophy and s ince 2005, only Arsenal and Liverpool have failed to win the league from top spot on January 1.
“He is a guy who once the basic fitness is there between the games, he wants to play”.
“You look as well at the impact he can have on other players”. After Everton, I was very, very anxious about the response of the players and how they would be, especially in the first 20 minutes.
“If Ozil continues to sparkle when it matters in the next 19 fixtures – there is a feeling in Germany that he doesn’t always produce in big matches – and inspires Wenger’s squad to their first Premier League title since 2004, it would make him a legend in the eyes of Arsenal fans”, Carragher continued. “Why not? To not get out of the qualification stage, you really need to be suicidal because 16 teams out of 24 qualify and the best [four] thirds go through, so you don’t imagine England don’t qualify”.
“You question our mentality, I don’t”, he said.
Some of the things you see on the pitch… his goal against Bournemouth alone.
“If things go well, they have a bunch of young players …” I also believe he has grown in stature and takes responsibilities, leadership in the team and on that front he has improved tremendously and looks determined to lead the team compared to when he arrived.
Arsenal forward Theo Walcott believes Mesut Ozil is playing the best football of his career and bringing the best out of his team-mates.
“Like all the teams who are in an uncomfortable situation psychologically where the confidence is low, they are better away from home”, he said.
