Delhi has shown the way: AAP govt on odd-even scheme
“I would also like to thank Delhi Police, Enforcement wing of the Transport department, sub divisional magistrates and civil defence volunteers for making the odd-even scheme a success”.

From January 1 only cars with odd-numbered licence plates will be allowed on the roads on odd-numbered dates and those with even-numbered plates on the other days to try to reduce pollutant levels which regularly hit 10 times the World Health Organization safe limits.
“The odd-even formula seems to be working very well in Delhi. We know today (Friday) was a holiday but the traffic was still less as compared to previous years”, said a traffic police head constable posted in south Delhi’s Saket area.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal along with his Cabinet ministers left no stone unturned to motivate people of the city to follow odd-even scheme and make it a success.
Newsletter has been successfully subscribed. “A decision on whether to continue it or not will be taken only after January 15”.
Aekta Kapoor said: “The roads were clear and I saw just one even-numbered vehicle”. Rai said though he was “unsuccessful” in spotting cars bearing even numbered registration plates, a handful of violators were fined in the capital.
The Delhi police had suggested the AAP government to allow women not having a driving licence or not knowing how to drive to travel with a male driver, but the proposal was shot down, Bassi said.
To enable improved transportation, the Delhi government has introduced an additional 3,000 buses and also said that metro services will run on higher frequency.
However, the real test of the scheme’s effectiveness will be on Moday as a number of private offices are closed today.
Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay criticised it saying there were practical problems in its implementation and they should have been first ironed out first.
The official said that most people, who wanted to ply their vehicles on even-numbered auto today, relented when they were greeted with roses. “No traffic… Delhi is following it voluntarily”.
Hailing Delhiites encouraging response, Kejriwal later told reporters: “It is a historic step towards reducing pollution level and Delhiites have adopted the plan and will set an example for the rest of the country”.

“When I went out for a morning walk, I found nearly all the cars following the scheme except one”. However, there was low commuter traffic on buses across the city on Friday.
