Manuel Pellegrini on victory over Sunderland and Vincent Kompany’s injury
With only 12 points pocketed from 17 games, they are firmly in the relegation battle… a fight which may only get worse as they have only recorded one win on the road so far this season, while City – for all their flaws – are fairly strong at the Etihad.

City scored three times in the first 22 minutes against struggling Sunderland as they bounced back from their 2-1 loss at Premier League title rivals Arsenal.
“We are trying to find the reasons why he has so many injuries in his calf but we will do all the tests we need to to try to understand why”, said Pellegrini. But that is a medical problem I can not answer.
“But we need to cope without him, even though it is harder”.
Skipper Vincent Kompany will miss Manchester City’s trip to Leicester on Tuesday after suffering a recurrence of a calf injury.
He was injured again during a 0-0 Premier League draw at Aston Villa on November 8, although still reported for global duty in the days that followed as his country prepared for friendlies against Italy and Spain.
His side face at least seven matches across three competitions in January following the match at Leicester, and Pellegrini will hope that his captain can make a quick return.
The injury news is a crushing blow to City fans and boss Pellegrini, with no return date set for their captain. But if you review how many games we played over the last two seasons, I think Vincent played in a maximum 70 per cent of them.
De Bruyne had a simple finish for his 10th City goal in the 54th. “We will be there to help him if he wants it”.
“It was a very important victory, not only because we won the three points but also in the way we played”. “Then we think about Leicester. We lost important points against Arsenal -a game of six points – but it was not a decisive game as I said before the match”.
City have failed to keep a clean sheet without Kompany this season, but Pellegrini insists his side can be successful without him and has ordered his players to rise to the challenge.
He would now be looking to buy centre-halves and he would probably be shopping overseas. “But without him, we must continue to defend as did tonight”.
However, in Pellegrini’s eyes, the replacement combinations of Nicolas Otamendi, Eliaquim Mangala and Martin Demichelis are showing signs of improvement.
He felt that the loss of defender Younes Kaboul to a recent hamstring injury has severely damaged his side.
Wilfried Bony of Manchester City celebrates with teammate Kevin De Bruyne after scoring the team’s third goal against Sunderland on Saturday.

City extended that lead moments later, with Toure collecting David Silva’s short square pass and turning away from a weak Jordi Gomez challenge before planting a low shot into the net from 20 yards.
