Sartaj Aziz to brief Pak Senate on PM Modi’s surprise visit
Pakistan, in turn, has sought to make the disputed Kashmir state the focus of talks. Last week, he brought the India-Russia special relationship back on track by forging a personal bond with President Vladimir Putin as the two leaders sat down for a two-and-a-half hour dinner without any official aides to thrash out bilateral issues. The Modi-Sharif bonhomie there was wasted, however, when fierce shootings across the LoC in Kashmir killed several soldiers on both sides in July 2014.

The government also continued its policy of active engagement with Indians overseas with the prime minister making his trademark speeches in diaspora public events in Canada, the US, Britain, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore and Malaysia.
To a question by Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Raheel Sharif’s recent visit to Afghanistan, Sartaj Aziz said he could not comment on it because the visit fell in the domain of the Ministry of Defence, not the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Modi’s visit, though short, was full of bonhomie between the two PMs.
“By striking breakthrough deals across Russian Federation and Afghanistan, Modi has cemented his ties with his allies, bring Pakistan in the mix with diplomatic ingenuity”.
A senior security official close to the talks process was wary when responding to the Modi visit.
In this year’s budget, the Modi-led Government had announced slew of measures to encourage start-ups including setting up of India Aspiration Fund and Atal Innovation Mission.
“Farmers can address their grievances directly, unemployment can be addressed through the app. If there is a situation disturbing, like a riot, intolerance in any part of the country, you can address it to the PM directly without having any emissary”, the Congress spokesperson said. Do we need bridges built by Pakistan?
The “mother of all coups” – Ambassador M K Bhadrakumar described Modi’s December 25 visit to Lahore – also had an important fall-out.
Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz.
It is understood that both leaders expressed their desire to take the dialogue process forward; Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary, Mr Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, told the media the visit was a “goodwill gesture” from India.

And throughout his go to, PM Modi apparently told Sharif – “jung bahut karli”. Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, meanwhile, tweeted: “Neighbors’ relations should be like this”. “Padosi se aise hi rishte hone chahiyen (One should have such relations with neighbours)”. He said Modi gave Sharif birthday greetings and the meeting took place in a “cordial atmosphere”, and added that the two countries’ foreign secretaries will meet in Islamabad next month.
