Downton Abbey’s final episode is broadcast on Christmas Day, but it will face stiff competition from EastEnders as it battles to go out on top in the ratings.

“We easily could have gone for a seventh season, but if I’d have said “We haven’t got Maggie” it would have been a shadow of itself”.
If you haven’t watched the series, Star World Premiere HD will be playing out all the episodes of the finale season right from the first episode.
On ITV, Emmerdale interested 4.4 million (down 1.1 million) and Corrie posted 5.8 million (down 600,000).
On Christmas Eve a comedy hour of Peter Kay won the night but had fewer than 5 million viewers, suggesting we just weren’t that interested in the TV this winter.
An hour-long edition of the BBC One soap begins at 20:45 GMT, the same time the final two-hour instalment of ITV’s period drama begins.
As the costume drama came to an end, the butler, Carson, played by Jim Carter, retired after developing hand tremors, probably caused by Parkinson’s Disease.
Downton Abbey has followed the story of the Crawley family and their servants from the 1912 and will say a final goodbye to them in 1925 this Christmas.
Beamish’s Town street was covered in “snow” in July, when filming took place with Lady Mary Crawley, played by Michelle Dockery, Tom Branson, played by Allen Leech and Henry Talbot, played by Matthew Goode.
She admitted: “One of my favourite purchases is a fur-trimmed high-collared orange and green coat that Lady Edith [Laura Carmichael] wears when she first kisses Bertie Pelham [Harry Hadden-Patton] when she’s staying in Gregson’s apartment”.
