Los Angeles Lakers Kobe Bryant Has Overstayed His Welcome
After almost 20 years, Bryant played his last road game against the team that drafted him, the Hornets, last Monday and after the contest shared how the team did not really want him back then.

After exacting NBA Finals revenge against the Celtics in 2010, Kobe Bryant has softened on Boston, and for the first time since the infamous 2007 “MVP” chants, the city returned the sentiment, offering a standing ovation during the starting lineup role call before playfully booing him on his first few possessions. For the first time in forever the Lakers don’t have a superstar on the roster, and with Jerry Buss’s passing they’re no longer one of the smartest franchises in the league.
Jordan Clarkson recorded 24 points (10-15 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 3-5 FT), three assists, two rebounds, and one steal in 33 minutes during the Los Angeles Lakers ‘ 112-104 win versus the Celtics on Wednesday.
The Lakers led 104-102 in the late stages of the fourth quarter, and as the shot clock winded down, old Celts friend Brandon Bass found Bryant beyond the 3-point line.
Leonard did not have a field attempt in the first 8 minutes of the game as the Spurs instead took advantage of mismatches for Aldridge and David West. In those opening 8 minutes Aldridge had eight points and West had two points and three rebounds.
After the game Kobe left applauding and bumping his chest towards the Boston crowd, a clear sign that the future Hall of Famer respects his most bitter rival.
Another thing to consider here is this is the last time Kobe Bryant will be facing the franchise of his hometown as everyone knows he is set to retire at the end of the season. I wanted my family here. It helped me find the best version of myself.
Said Bryant: “I’ll take a 1-1 draw”. From a competitive standpoint, I’m pretty sure you’re just like me.
At the moment, the Lakers are at 6-27 to remain fifth in the Pacific Division.
“It’s right up there with Philadelphia for me in terms of most emotional (stops on his retirement tour) because this place has really meant a lot for my career”, Bryant said.
At one point, “Ko-be Bry-ant” chants were met with boos, then a follow-up of “let’s go Celtics” chants.
“It wasn’t on my radar as much because I didn’t see the opportunity ever coming to be”, Bryant said. It’s always cool when I come here.
When the game ended, the crowd roared as Bryant exchanged hugs with several Celtics and then acknowledged the crowd as he walked toward the exit. That’s just how sports are.
When word got out that Danny Ainge had swung a deal with the Timberwolves to bring Kevin Garnett to Boston, all of New England and Celtics fans worldwide were ecstatic. “At the Finals, they were playing it at the start of the game, and I was looking for it. That’s probably what threw me off at the start of the game”.
