George Lucas Sorry For ‘White Slavers’ Comment
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is breaking countless box office records, and is well on its way to becoming the biggest movie of all-time.

He said: “They wanted to do a retro movie”.
The movie mogul was chatting to USA newsman Charlie Rose about his decision to sell the Star Wars franchise to Disney when he made the ill-advised comment, which set social media alight earlier this week (beg28Dec15).
George Lucas was instrumental for starting the genre of “Star Wars”.
In his lengthy interview with Rose, the “Star Wars” inventor had expressed deep ambivalence about the fate of his space epic, despite the fact $4 billion cash and stock windfall he gained in the 2012 sale to Disney.
In a statement issued last Thursday, Lucas says he misspoke and used a “very inappropriate analogy”.
That opens the door to people like J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson taking on the franchise with the list of dream directors growing far beyond that. “Every movie I work very hard to make them completely different, with different planets, with different spaceships, make it new”.
“I have been working with Disney for 40 years and chose them as the custodians of Star Wars because of my great respect for the company and Bob Iger’s leadership”, Lucas said.
It still has James Cameron’s Avatar to beat, however, which still remains the highest-grossing film in box office history.
Globally, The Force Awakens has made $1.3 billion, now 7th all-time, according to Box Office Mojo, a site that tracks film earnings, recently passing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Disney has plans for two more Star Wars films and three anthology films set in the Star Wars universe over the next few years. “Here I was, doing something I did so long ago”, he said.

Next stop, Avatar’s all-time domestic record of $760.5 million. “I think the fans are going to love it”, he told Vulture ahead of The Force Awakens’ release.
