“I have my doubts they get this to a jury anytime soon”, said Los Angeles defense attorney Mark Geragos, noting the thorny legal issues and Cosby’s advanced age (78) and infirmities, namely his badly deteriorating eyesight.

Steinberg adds, a Judge may allow the testimony of other women who are accusing Cosby of sexual assault. As with anyone accused of a crime, Cosby deserves his day in court.

He said there was “no merit” in her lawyers’ claim that “Massachusetts’ marital disqualification law renders her incompetent to testify in this matter”.

Earlier this year, The Associated Press persuaded a judge to unseal documents from the Constand lawsuit, and they showed the long-married Cosby acknowledging a string of affairs and sexual encounters.

If Cosby is found guilty of the charge – which is considered a second degree felony – he could face up to 10 years in prison, and would be required to register as a sex offender.
