Alabama beats Michigan State in Cotton Bowl, advances to championship game
We want to look at the bright side.

That defensive front insists that it be so, as would the nation’s foremost unit of any kind, a rotating menace chockablock with dynamic sorts.
With their dominating win, the Crimson Tide have a chance to win their fourth national championship in seven years.
The Cotton Bowl featuring Alabama and Michigan State that kicked off at 8 p.m. earned a 9.9 overnight rating, while the Orange Bowl featuring Clemson and Oklahoma that kicked off at 4 p.m. earned a 9.7 overnight rating.
Michigan State fell by a rather unimpressive score of 38-0 against the No. 2 team in the country while being ranked No. 3.
After exiting early in the game against Oklahoma, Lawson said he would play in the title game against Alabama.
“I wasn’t surprised at all by the game he had tonight”, Alabama coach Nick Saban said. On the other: Swinney, Alabama-born, former walk-on wide receiver and a member of the Tide’s 1992 national championship team under Gene Stallings (for whom he later coached).
To travel college football anymore is to hear players incessantly tout the brotherhoods, the families and the love within their teams, but here come two teams that do make that assessment nearly palpable for witnesses.
Clemson shouldn’t starved for motivation. The point is this: Nobody has mastered stern and disciplinary football on the college level like Saban, and no one ever will. Which is why the only way to beat Alabama is to somehow screw with Saban’s domineering sense of order.
Alabama cheerleaders celebrate win.
“This game coming up next, everyone will probably pick Alabama but that doesn’t mean [Clemson] can’t win”, he said. But the bold move by Kiffin – and ultimately, coach Nick Saban – paid dividends. That’s a bad sign for any opponent.
In a game that clearly will focus on quarterbacks, Watson is the type of dual-threat player that has given Alabama’s aggressive, man-under defense problems over the years. At the end of the first half, with Alabama beginning to overwhelm the MSU party goers with its 10-0 lead, Henry only had 39 yards on 11 carries. “Rotating really helps us a lot”. We’re four out of 16 on third down.
“It’s awesome. It makes me jealous that I’m not a year older and already at Clemson”. Clemson has now defeated Oklahoma in consecutive bowls on the heels of beating LSU and Ohio State.
“Calvin did a great job of just getting up and making plays”, Coker said, sitting to the left of Saban.
Yet the Spartans couldn’t score against Alabama, with linebacker Dillon Lee preserving the shutout with a leaping interception.
In the next week, you will hear much about DeShaun Watson, Dabo Swinney and the emergence of Wayne Gallman. Since then, Saban has at least partially embraced the revolution: He hired disgraced USC coach Lane Kiffin as his offensive coordinator, and Kiffin has employed elements of both the spread and the hurry-up offense. No. I’m not insane. He would have gotten the ball more, but when Coker counted nine men in the box on Alabama’s run-pass option plays, the quarterback’s mandate was to throw-usually a bubble screen.
Jake Coker played the game of his career, hooking up with Calvin Ridley for two touchdowns, and going 25 for 30 for a career-best 286 yards. On a night when tailback Derrick Henry was held to his lowest rushing total (75 yards) in a full game since September, Coker was the focal point of the Tide offense.
Cox admitted his shock that Coker was more than the game manager he had been painted as leading up to the Cotton Bowl. We were still in a quarterback situation, rotating guys and figuring that out. I think that’s why he was elected captain by his teammates and he’s respected so much because of his toughness and his competitive spirit and how he’s a real team guy. I thought Jake [quarterback Jake Coker] did a great job. There are a lot of things I could’ve done better.
Alabama’s offense wasn’t moving Thursday before Coker began chucking deep. You never hear him saying you should get more balls to him.

Winning the national title and going 15-0 would be obviously a huge boost to the Tigers, but it would also be a major moment for the Atlantic Coast Conference as well.
