Wayne Rogers, Former “M*A*S*H” Star, Dead at 82

Wayne Rogers, who played Trapper John on the iconic series M*A*S*H, has died. Rogers, whose “Trapper” John McIntyre on “M.A.S.H.” was among the most beloved characters on one of the most popular shows of all time, has died at age 82.

Outback Bowl Notes: Vols go deep into playbook in blowout

Reuters quotes Rogers as saying that if he knew the show was going to last that long, he might have “kept my mouth shut and stayed put”. And Rogers as Trapper retorts, “You peek into one shower and you’re labeled for life!”.

Rogers was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and graduated from Princeton University with a degree in history.

Tributes have been pouring in for the late star, with chat show host Larry King tweeting: “Saddened about #MASH star Wayne Rogers’ passing”. He served as a navigator in the Navy before becoming an actor in NY in the 1950s. He also enjoyed success as a real estate and stock investor.

In the early days of his acting career, Rogers appeared in numerous TV westerns, as well as small roles in movies such as Cool Hand Luke and The Glory Guys.

He later earned a Golden Globe nomination for the CBS series House Calls, on which he played Dr. Charley Michaels.

Rogers received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2005.

The actor is survived by his spouse, Amy, and his youngsters Bill and Laura from his first marriage to actress Mitzi McWhorter.
