TCU Coach Changes Shirts, Horned Frogs Pull Off Incredible 31-Point Comeback
Boykin and some friends were at Pat O’Brien’s ahead of Saturday’s Alamo Bowl matchup against the Oregon Ducks when other patrons recognized him and “exchanged words”, according to NBC affiliate WOAI in San Antonio.

Gary Patterson and the #11 TCU Horned Frogs went into half-time down 31-0 to the Oregon Ducks.
And that TCU offense will have to be ready to roll without Boykin, having gained momentum in a big win over Baylor last time out. As ESPN pointed out, Patterson changed from black to purple at halftime.
The Horned Frogs managed to survive the Ducks in the Alamo Bowl, capping an 11-2 season with an epic rally that instantly overshadowed what had evolved into a lopsided postseason. For some reason, tailback Royce Freeman has been missing in the offensive scheme and this cannot happen. Alabama and Clemson won this year’s Cotton and Orange Bowl semifinals by 38 and 20 points, respectively. His college career abruptly ended when Patterson suspended the onetime top Heisman Trophy contender, who left his room after curfew in San Antonio and then got charged with assault on a public servant.
But thanks to some key injuries, some improbable play, and a crucial wardrobe change, the Horned Frogs made history. It’s now unlikely any of us will ever forget this Alamo.
Before his injury, Adams completed 13 of 19 passes for 197 yards and a touchdown, again impressively playing the role of point guard for an offense that looked unstoppable down the stretch, and unstoppable in the first half of the game on Saturday.
Several of the snaps Lockie received hit the ground, including one that initially appeared to have resulted in a long touchdown to wide receiver Darren Carrington on a slant route. OR was cooking with fire, and the Frogs were powerless to stop it. We’re here to play Oregon. With a month since the Horned Frogs last played, Boykin is at his healthiest he’s been in a while. He had never started a major college game until his final one and did his best to mimic Boykin, especially in the second half with tough runs and pinpoint passing as TCU stormed back.
Vernon Adams Jr. left the game after a helmet-to-helmet collision in the second quarter and did not return. The senior isn’t the quarterback Adams is.
But Adams left after a helmet-to-helmet hit, to be replaced by Jeff Lockie, and OR also had to play without Hegarty at center. That was after the Ducks allowed 430 yards per game in Pellum’s first season as defensive coordinator, an increase of 60 yards from the year before. Meanwhile, TCU’s own attack found new life in Adams’s absence.
The Oregon defense got little help from its offense, which ran 18 plays for 18 yards in the third and fourth quarters. – TCU RB Aaron Green ran 25 times for 101 yards and a score, and caught two passes for 56 yards.
After Kohlhausen’s go-ahead run, his pass on a two-point conversion was incomplete.
TCU first got on the scoreboard early in the third quarter when Oberkrom kicked a 24-yard field goal to cut Oregon’s lead to 31-3. Kohlhausen nearly pulled TCU through, completing 5 of 11 passes with no interceptions for 122 yards and two TDs.
