Man United: ‘Amazing’ Rooney seals Reds win
Much-travelled Louis van Gaal has coached some of the biggest clubs in world football but Manchester United’s fans are the best he has come across, the Dutch veteran said on Thursday.

Manchester United recorded their first victory in eight league matches against Swansea on Saturday, with Wayne Rooney scoring an ingenious back heel goal to gain the important three points.
United’s goal and points tally had been their lowest ever in the first half of a Premier League season and when Gylfi Sigurdsson headed Swansea level with 20 minutes to go another winless afternoon threatened.
“He scores also a fantastic goal, with his left foot behind his right foot, and you can not imagine what a goal that is”.
Asked whether a first United win in nine would spark the side into form, he said: “You can not predict that”.
It was a badly needed three points for United manager van Gaal, who had been forced to deny he was considering quitting over Christmas. The last player to score a first half goal at Old Trafford in all competitions was Juan Mata v Wolfsburg in September.
“When you analyse the matches, we are always capable of playing in our style where we created chances and were the dominating team”.
Anthony Martial’s second-half opener had previously been cancelled out by a Glyfi Sigurdsson header, but Rooney’s deft flick from a Martial cross sent United back up to fifth at the start of the new year. “But we also need a little bit of luck”, Van Gaal was quoted as saying by goal.com.
“Everything is going well until now but I can not say whether he will be back this season”, Van Gaal added.
“Too many strikers of high quality for the same position is too much pressure, but now I don’t have the chance to change”.
Louis van Gaal has suggested the Manchester United job could be his last, but denied that the pressure he is experiencing at Old Trafford is the reason he may leave management behind.
Also, West Ham rose to sixth in beating Liverpool 2-0, with Andy Carroll – still Liverpool’s most expensive player ever – heading in the second goal against his former club.
Swansea managed to largely contain United during the opening 45 minutes.

“December was a poor month but it’s a great feeling to get that win and I think we’ve shown that we’ve fought hard and we need to kick on”, the United defender told MUTV. He wants to play’.
