Oklahoma State vs. Ole Miss, Sugar Bowl 2016
Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly looked a lot like his Pro Football Hall of Fame uncle on Friday, throwing four touchdown passes as the Rebels routed Oklahoma State, 48-20, in the Sugar Bowl.

Ole Miss’ balanced attacked – the Rebels passed for 347 yards and rushed for 207 yards – kept the Oklahoma State defense off-balance and led to a 34-6 halftime lead.
Through one quarter Ole Miss led it, 10-3, after a 34-yard field goal by Gary Wunderlich, and a 31-yard touchdown pass from Kelly to Cody Core.
Ole Miss’ star receiver, Laquon Treadwell, who seriously considered OSU when recruited out of Crete, Ill., burned the Cowboys for three touchdowns, on just six catches and 71 yards.
Oklahoma State got on the board first with a field goal but after that the offense was nearly non-existent until they finally scored a touchdown with a minute left in the third quarter when J.W. Walsh replaced Mason Rudolph. Ole Miss fans can thank the usual great playing of Chad Kelly’s touchdown passes to wide receiver Laquon Treadwell.
When Walsh came in as the quarterback, he completed nine of his 14 pass attempts for 125 yards and two touchdowns. Ole Miss’ “Landshark” defense held in check one of the nation’s top passing offenses, limiting the Cowboys to 303 yards through the air – 54 below their per-game average of 357.3.
On Tuesday, the team spent a portion of the day at the World War II Museum in downtown New Orleans.
Oklahoma State’s defense had a rough night as well. Ole Miss can hit home runs and should swing for the fences in the Sugar Bowl. With the experience – and the better showing in his biggest bowl game, the Fiesta Bowl vs. Stanford – Gundy gets the edge entering the matchup.
Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy is 6-3 in bowl games and coaches in one for the 10th consecutive year. And the snowball started downhill on us in the second quarter, and we couldn’t slow them down from big plays on offense.
Ole Miss comes in riding a roller coaster of a season. Ole Miss was 2-0 against Oklahoma State in recent bowl games, winning the 2004 and 2010 Cotton Bowls…. Oklahoma State Cowboys recorded 357.3 passing yards and 131.8 rushing yards while allowed 244.3 passing yards and 185.3 russhing yards with turnover differential of -1.1.
TUNSIL VS OGBAH: It should be a matchup of elite players when Ole Miss left tackle Laremy Tunsil takes on Oklahoma State defensive lineman Emmanuel Ogbah.
“If you’re not careful, if everybody’s having to do every single thing and go to every single event, all of a sudden you’ve got a exhausted football team that mentally is not locked in when it comes time for meetings and practice”, added Freeze. But not before Treadwell himself found Jordan Wilkins deep for a 45-yard pass and catch.
It wasn’t a flawless throw, and the big man had to nimbly adjust his route when the ball was in midair, but it eventually fell into his hands and he jogged untouched 2 yards for the touchdown as the Rebels ended the first half with a stunning exclamation point.
With a two-touchdown lead, Ole Miss went to it’s bag of tricks after holding OSU again and forcing the Cowboys (10-3) to punt. The score brought the game to 41-13.
