Foot injury likely to keep Gurley out of Rams’ final game
The team is just 4-11 so far, heading into its last game, and the 49ers want to move on even though Tomsula has been the head coach for just a single season.

Marty Schottenheimer (2001 Washington), Art Shell (2006 Raiders), Jim Mora (2009 Seahawks) and Mike Mularkey (2012 Jaguars) were fired after one season, but they had previous experience as head coaches.
After a week of preparation on the West Coast, the Rams are set to take on the 49ers in the season finale, looking to win their fourth straight.
Rams super rookie running back Todd Gurley was listed as doubtful on Friday for the Rams season ending game this coming weekend at San Francisco.
“No. I mean, limbo – typically you find out what happens pretty quickly”, Mangini said. “He’s got an issue he’s dealing with and we’re still doing tests”.
“We’ll have some guidance with that I’m sure fairly soon after the season ends”, Mangini said Thursday. Tomsula was the hand-picked replacement for Jim Harbaugh, an eight-year member of the staff whom they knew better than any team ever knows a head-coaching candidate.
The Rams (7-8) will try to finish.
“We haven’t had a problem with guys working, and we haven’t a had a problem this week”, Tomsula said. “A little bit of that is also explaining it to my kids the way this world works, because it’s the first time they’ve been conscious of transition, they’ve been conscious of any of that stuff”.
YELLOW FLAGS GALORE: San Francisco was penalized seven times for offside or neutral zone penalties in last Sunday’s loss at Detroit, with seven players accounting for the flags – three of those in a 26-second first-half stretch. Tomsula beat out then-Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase to get introduced as the franchise’s 19th coach on January 14. The 2011 first-round pick by Jacksonville, Gabbert has thrown for 1,677 yards and nine touchdowns with six interceptions and 24 sacks.
GABBERT’S AUDITION: Like Keenum, 49ers quarterback Blaine Gabbert wants to land himself in a stable position.
“It’s been the same all year”, Tomsula said.

Much of those uplifting developments have occurred on the practice field and not on game day, Tomsula conceded.
